The 2010 Census
Do not become a victim of fraud or identity theft

With the U.S census process beginning, the better business bureau advises people to be cooperative but cautious so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft.

If a U.S census worker knocks on your door, they will have a number of things with them, but you should require that they show you a badge and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their badge and identification before allowing them in to your home or answer any questions that they may ask you.

U.S census workers are only asking to verify address information. Do not give your social security number, credit card number, or any other banking information to someone claiming to work for the U.S census. NO MATTER WHAT they ask you, you are NOT REQUIRED to give out any information regarding your financial situation.

No U.S census information will be conducted via email. Ignore all email messages sent to you asking for information for the U.S census. Never click on a link or open any attachments in an email that are supposedly from the U.S Census Bureau.
